Straight hair tends to get oily faster and can go flat. Focus on volumising and balancing formulas that don't weigh hair down.
Wavy hair needs moisture without frizz. Look for curl-enhancing creams and lightweight oils that define waves without crunch.
Curly hair is naturally dry and prone to frizz. Deep moisture, protein, and curl-specific styling products are essential. The Curly Girl Method is a great starting point.
4C and coily hair is the most fragile and requires the highest moisture retention. Shrinkage, breakage, and dryness are the primary concerns to address.
Fine hair needs volume and lift without weight. Avoid heavy conditioners and oils β focus on root-lifting products and lightweight formulas.
Thick, dense hair takes longer to dry and can be prone to dryness and frizz. Rich, nourishing formulas and smoothing products work best.

Heat Damage
Frequent blow-drying, straightening, or curling causes protein loss and breakage. Bond-repair treatments and heat protectants are essential.
Colour-Treated Hair
Chemical processing strips natural oils and weakens the hair shaft. Colour-safe, sulphate-free formulas and UV protection extend vibrancy and prevent brassiness.
Hair Thinning & Growth
Thinning hair responds well to scalp stimulation, caffeine, rosemary oil, and biotin-enriched formulas. Consistency is key β results take 3β6 months.
The Complete Haircare Guide for 2025
Healthy hair starts with a consistent, targeted routine built around your hair type, texture, and specific concerns. Whether you're battling heat damage, colour fade, dryness, or thinning, understanding which ingredients and products to reach for β and which to avoid β makes all the difference.
The Key Haircare Ingredients Explained
Our certified trichologist has identified these as the most evidence-backed haircare ingredients across all hair types:
Bis-Aminopropyl Diglycol Dimaleate
Bond Repair (Olaplex active)
Reconnects broken disulphide bonds in the hair shaft caused by chemical and heat processing. The active molecule in Olaplex No.3.
Rosemary Oil
Hair Growth
Clinical studies show rosemary oil is as effective as minoxidil 2% for stimulating hair growth when applied to the scalp consistently for 6 months.
Argan Oil
Moisture & Shine
Rich in oleic and linoleic acids. Penetrates the hair shaft to reduce protein loss during washing, reduce frizz, and add lasting shine.
Caffeine
Scalp Stimulation
Stimulates blood flow to the scalp and extends the anagen (growth) phase of the hair cycle. Found in many targeted scalp serums and shampoos.
Keratin
Strength & Smoothness
Replenishes the hair's natural protein structure. Reduces frizz, improves elasticity, and strengthens the cuticle. Essential for chemically processed hair.
Panthenol (Pro-Vitamin B5)
Hydration & Elasticity
Penetrates the hair shaft and binds water, improving moisture retention and elasticity. Reduces breakage from mechanical stress like brushing.
How Often Should You Wash Your Hair?
Wash frequency depends entirely on your hair type, scalp oil production, and lifestyle β not on a universal rule. Here's our trichologist's guidance:
- Oily scalp: Wash every 1β2 days. Use a balancing or clarifying shampoo to prevent build-up without over-stripping.
- Normal scalp: Every 2β3 days is ideal. Use a sulphate-free shampoo for gentle daily cleansing if needed.
- Dry or curly hair: 1β2 times per week maximum. Frequent washing removes natural oils that curly and coily textures need most.
- Colour-treated hair: 2β3 times per week using colour-safe, sulphate-free shampoo. Over-washing accelerates colour fade.
How to Repair Damaged Hair
Hair damage β whether from heat, chemical processing, or environmental stress β cannot be permanently reversed, as hair is not living tissue beyond the scalp. However, targeted treatments can dramatically improve the appearance, strength, and manageability of damaged strands while protecting new growth.
Step 1: Stop the Source of Damage
If heat damage is the culprit, reduce styling tool temperatures (below 180Β°C for fine hair, below 220Β°C for thick/coarse hair) and always apply a heat protectant before any thermal styling. If chemical damage, allow 6β8 weeks between colour services and use colour-safe products exclusively.
Step 2: Weekly Bond Repair Treatment
Apply a bond-repair treatment like Olaplex No.3 or equivalent weekly on damp hair before shampooing. Leave for a minimum of 10 minutes. These treatments rebuild broken disulphide bonds β the structural backbone of the hair shaft β from the inside out.
Step 3: Deep Condition Regularly
Follow every wash with a deep conditioning mask left on for 5β20 minutes. Look for ingredients such as keratin, panthenol, shea butter, and ceramides to restore elasticity and seal the cuticle.
